March 6, 2012 1. So far the main character is Liesel Meminger. She has gone to live with a foster family, Rosa and Hans Hubermann. Rudy is becoming Liesel's best friend. Also, Death seems to be the narrator, so it could also be counted as a main character. Some of the minor characters are Liesel's brother that died on the train and Liesel's mother. When Liesel's brother died, he left Liesel alone to start the new chapter of her life with her new foster parents. Liesel's mother gave Liesel and her brother to foster care.
2. I don't think that the mother should have given up Liesel to a foster family, especially after Liesel's brother died. Even the little money that they had would have been better than having to split up a family.
3. This story has definitely changed my way of thinking. It makes me think more of adoption and foster families, how sometimes the foster parents might be better or more of a parent than the real parents. Also, it makes me think about how bad things must be that this girl must steal books to read them.
Absolutely! I definitely take books for granted. It's so easy to get/buy a book. It's hard to imagine that having books would be such a luxury.
